OUR BIBLE TALK

This week we will have Jodie lead us in the second of our two-part series ‘Know and Tell the Gospel‘. Last week we learnt the basics of our Christian belief, and this week we will focus on how to tell and share the gospel with others.

Our AGM meeting for 2020 will be this Tuesday 10th of March at 7pm. All are invited to this key time of celebration and forward inspiration, and an opportunity to elect Wardens and Parish Councillors.

Friday 13th March at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre. Kids at 4:30-6pm, Youth at 7:15-9:15pm, and a shared dinner between sessions. Not to be missed! Bring your friends! Featuring ‘City Alive’.

Thursday 19th March at 10am at St Matthew’s Hall, Chapel Lane. Join us at this special, mid-week time for an opportunity to enjoy friendship with members of the other Christian churches in our village.

Each week we need to receive $6300.00 in order to meet our commitments. Gospel First Aid

When I attended my initial first aid training, I was told that my job was simply to keep the patient alive until the ambulance arrives.

I needed to learn how to react automatically so that I could stop the bleeding, cool the burn, or keep oxygen-filled blood moving to the brain.

There’s no time in an emergency to consult books or watch ‘how-to’ videos… you’ve got to react fast so that you can keep someone alive until help arrives.

But what about spiritual first aid?

If someone wants to find out how to become a follower of Jesus, then what ‘gospel first aid’ would you administer to them?

As a young Christian I was trained in the ‘Two Ways to Live’ gospel outline, and it’s something that every follower of Jesus can benefit from.

But if you’ve got ten seconds to tell someone how to be saved from God’s judgement and receive eternal life, then what would you say?

Well, probably the simplest, most direct summary is, “Jesus is Lord”.

For we read in the Bible that:

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

So, just say, “Jesus is Lord”.

And then you can easily flesh that out a little bit by telling the person that they need to ask Jesus to be their Lord.

Then, when they come to follow Jesus, they can start to learn more about the amazing way that Jesus brought reconciliation through his death and resurrection.

But to give people the gospel first aid to help them survive God’s judgement, they just need to know and believe that Jesus is Lord.

And because Jesus rose from the dead, they can have totally confidence in him, for eternity.

This week we will have the second in our two-part series, ‘Know and Tell the Gospel‘. Last week we learnt the basics of what we believe, and this week we will learn how to tell and share the gospel with others.

Each week in our services we have a question and answer segment. To ask question, simply fill out your response slip at church. Here are the questions I’ll be answering this week:

1 When it says that the heavens will be destroyed, isn’t it talking about the sky?

2 If we confess our sins but continue anyway, does this mean we’re not really sorry for them?

3 Were the faithful Old Testament people saved by the death of Jesus, like us?

4 Since Old Testament saints were saved by Christ without knowing all about him, could this also apply today to those who haven’t heard about Jesus?

5 Won’t there be sadness in Heaven when people realise their loved ones are in Hell?

6 Should we be thankful when militant atheists are sent to Hell?

7 Will there be sin in Hell?

8 How do you stay true to God when people are hurting you?

Join us on Saturdays at 5pm for our family service! We have a kids program, share dinner together afterwards and also have a youth group for years 6-12 from 7:30-9pm. Or why not come along on Sundays at 9am? This service has a more classic Anglican feel, and we share morning tea together following the service, along with hot espresso!

Prayer for the Pandemic

In a year that has seen bushfire and flood emergencies, we are now bracing for a further escalation of the ‘Coronavirus’.

As fears grow that the COVID-19 virus will soon be declared a global pandemic, our Prime Minister has now announced the launch of a plan to respond to the rapid and uncontrollable spread of this disease.

Like the fire and flood emergencies, we are again facing an emergency that we are powerless to control in our own strength.

This is the same realisation that drove so many Australians to their knees in prayer, as we collectively asked the true and living God to send saturating rain to quench the flames and the drought. 

Now is the time for our world to gather to ask the Lord of the universe to miraculously stop the spread of this destructive disease, and to help restore communities crippled by the effects of this virus.

When we pray, we acknowledge our powerlessness and our need for a genuine, super-power.

For if Trump and Jinping, are unable to come up with a way to fix this crisis, then again it shows that faith in technology is no match for faith in Jesus.

And so, as we prayed for rain to fix the fires and drought, let us pray that God would stop the spread of this virus.

Yet above all, pray that this global threat might lead people to acknowledge their genuine need of Jesus, and bring them to genuine repentance and true faith in Christ.

For the same Lord who stopped the plague when King David repented of his arrogance (2 Samuel 24:25) is the same Lord who is also able to answer our prayer for our planet.

Let us pray that our planet might come in great number before the Lord in repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

This week Jodie will lead us as we start a new two-week series ‘Know and Tell the Gospel‘, as we look at the first topic: ‘Know the Gospel’. This is an ideal opportunity for us to be very clear about the basics of what we believe, so we can easily know it and share it with others.

We have a regular question and answer segment in our services. To ask a question, simply fill out a response slip at church. Here are the questions that Jodie will tackle this week:

1 What will happen on Judgement Day for the people who never heard about Jesus?
2 Should we be hungry for heaven when we know that it will be destroyed when Jesus returns?
3 Is it selfish to hope that Jesus won’t return for a while because you aren’t ready?
4 When it says that everyone will confess that Jesus is Lord, does this include people going to hell?
5 What is the “wealth” in the Parable of the Talents and what do the interest and bankers mean?
6 Is the Parable of the Talents about our gifts or about the gospel?
7 Is Satan’s role in our sin just his temptation, or can we blame him for physical events?
8 What are your top tips on how to have a thriving, personal relationship with Jesus?

Join us on Saturdays at 5pm for our family service, with a kids program followed by dinner for everyone and a youth group for years 6-12. Or come along on Sunday mornings at 9am for a more classic Anglican feel, followed by morning tea and hot espresso!
